The challenge

TheTech4Regeneration initiative addresses the urgent global need for solutions that go beyond sustainability to actively regenerate natural systems and reverse environmental damage. While sustainability has been the focus of many industries, it is no longer sufficient to maintain the "safe zone "required for human societies to thrive. With increasing breaches in planetary boundaries, such as biodiversity loss and climate change, it has become clear that a more profound shift towards a regenerative economy is necessary.

The current economic models, which focus on linear exploitation of resources, are insufficient to meet the complex environmental challenges facing the world today. This creates an imperative to accelerate the development and adoption of regenerative technologies that restore ecosystems and reduce waste.

The solution

Tech4Regenerationis a startup accelerator program designed to scale up innovative regenerative technologies that restore natural systems rather than deplete them. The program, based at EPFL’s Ecotope hub, unites startups, SMEs, corporations, and academia to foster cross-industry collaborations aimed at solving critical environmental challenges. By providing tailored coaching, access to investors, and organizing international roadshows, the program accelerates the development of startups working in fields such as energy transition, circular economy, green materials, and carbon capture. With a focus on regenerative solutions, the accelerator helps companies develop products that have a net positive impact on the planet and society.

« The initiative promises to drive positive change by accelerating the adoption of solutions that restore the environment and promote a more sustainable future for all. »

The program also emphasizes the creation of a vibrant, open-innovation ecosystem where research labs, corporate partners, and startups collaborate to test and scale regenerative solutions. Through this platform, Tech4Regeneration not only supports the growth of innovative businesses but also positions the region and EPFL as global leaders in regenerative technology. The accelerator fosters the development of market-ready products while building an international network of regenerative entrepreneurs and investors, creating a new model for economic and ecological regeneration. The initiative promises to drive positive change by accelerating the adoption of solutions that restore the environment and promote a more sustainable future for all.
